  3. processor, characters are added
  4. to the screen. If you look
  5. closely, you'll see that the
  6. characters are composed of dots.

  9.     One of the expansion cards,
  10. called a display card, is for
  11. the monitor.  The simplest card
  12. can display only ASCII text on
  13. the monitor. A Hercules card
  14. can display text and two color
  15. (black plus one color) graphics.
  16. This is called monochrome. A CGA
  17. card can display text in up to
  18. 16 colors or graphics in up to
  19. 4 colors. An EGA card can display
  20. text and graphics in a higher
  21. resolution, meaning more, smaller
  22. dots, in up to 16 colors.  And a

  29. and can handle up to 256 colors.
